Soviet Dragline

So here is a random one – I (Zane) spied an old Soviet dragline off the highway and couldn’t resist a look. Having spent a couple of years working on draglines in Queensland, Australia I was pretty excited.

This one had obviously been parked for a lot of years and was being decommissioned by a crew of boilermakers when we were there.

So we made friends with the crew and managed to get a tour around the machine, including the machinery deck and operators cab. Also had some tea and biscuits – thanks guys!

Does anyone out there know any more information about this model dragline? All I know at this point is it’s a model by Novokramatorsky Mashinostroitelny Zavod (NKMZ).

It was located half way between Khabarovsk and Blagovashchenk, and served a power station nearby.
